Issue Position: Pushing for Open and Honest Government

Issue Position

Jason has provided unprecedented access to the Secretary of State's office, as well as state government in general. The Secretary of State's office writes the language for statewide ballot questions, and Jason decided to make that process more transparent and accessible for Missourians. In his first month in office, Jason created a public comment period when drafting the summary language for ballot questions.

Jason also started an initiative to make the state legislature more open and accessible to Missourians, www.TheMissouriChannel.com. Because of this project, for the first time Missourians can find archived audio files of floor debate from the Missouri Senate and House of Representatives.

He also believes that open and honest government means using taxpayer dollars as effectively and efficiently as possible, which is why he has gone line by line through his budget to look for waste. In that process, he was able to cut more than $1 million from his office's budget while simultaneously offering more services than any Secretary of State has in the past.
