Sen. Landrieu Statement on Vote Supporting Condoleezza Rice

"Our responsibility is to determine whether a Cabinet nominee possesses the necessary qualifications for the job and can be expected to execute her duties responsibly. I believe Dr. Rice meets this standard, and have today voted to approve her nomination as Secretary of State.

"Dr. Rice's journey from childhood in a racially segregated South to her confirmation today as our nation's highest diplomatic officer illustrates the power of the American system of education and opportunity. While I may take issue with some elements of the President's foreign policy plan, Dr. Rice's credentials are impressive and her record of hard work and achievement cannot be denied."
