Today, Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02) received the Alzheimer's Association's 2015 Humanitarian Award.

According to the Alzheimer's Association, "the Humanitarian Award is given each year to public officials who have made significant contributions to help create a world without Alzheimer's and to provide support for those who are struggling with the disease." The Alzheimer's Association specifically thanked Congressman Guthrie for introducing the Alzheimer's Accountability Act, which was ultimately signed into law, in the previous Congress.

"As one of the leading causes of death in the United States, Alzheimer's has a very human face -- nearly every Kentuckian I meet has a personal connection to Alzheimer's disease," said Congressman Guthrie. "It's all too common and a disease that impacts not just those suffering with the illness, but entire families and especially those caregivers who spend so much of their lives caring for the afflicted."

Congressman Guthrie received the award during the Alzheimer's Association's annual fly-in in Washington, D.C.

"This disease is emotionally wrenching for families who are impacted. The burden and responsibility is overwhelming and very trying," said Congressman Guthrie during his remarks.

"I'm proud that my legislation, the Alzheimer's Accountability Act, will play a role in enhancing the research and treatment of Alzheimer's moving forward. Receiving this award is incredibly humbling, but there's more work to do. I look forward to continuing to work with Kentucky's chapter as we work to find a cure for this debilitating disease," added Congressman Guthrie.
