Rep. Tom Graves Votes to Repeal Obamacare's Medical Device Tax

Statement

Date: June 18, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-14) issued the following statement today after voting in favor of the Protect Medical Innovation Act (H.R. 160), legislation that repeals Obamacare's 2.3 percent excise tax on the sale of medical devices:

"Under Obamacare, the sale of life-saving medical devices such as pacemakers, insulin pumps and heart valves are taxed. Besides the fact that this tax has already cost tens of thousands of good-paying jobs, it stifles innovation by discouraging investment in the medical device industry. By repealing this ill-conceived tax, we will not only create jobs but also restore an innovative environment that could lead to the next big medical breakthrough, potentially saving countless lives."

H.R. 160 passed the House of Representatives by a bipartisan vote of 280 to 140.
