Hastings on Global Youth Service Days

Statement

Date: April 11, 2015
Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL

Today through Sunday is Global Youth Services Days (GYSD). I am proud to support the millions of youth across the globe, in nations tens of thousands of miles away and in communities here at home, as they join together to improve the world around them. We all have a role to play in changing the world, and as we mark the Global Youth Service Days this weekend -- the largest service event in the world -- we celebrate the contributions made by countless unsung heroes year round.

Whether you are concerned with education, the environment, hunger, or homelessness, this weekend is an opportunity to celebrate our accomplishments of the past year and look ahead to the challenges that remain. The young leaders around the world give us the hope of a better tomorrow. I am continuously inspired by their dedication and involvement in making our streets, neighborhoods, and communities shine a little brighter.

The Global Youth Service Days are celebrated in over 100 countries. Here at home, Youth Service America will distribute over $1 million in grants to over 800 local groups organizing Global Youth Service Days projects.
