Rep. Doug Collins Praises State Department Reversal Agency Grants Temporary Visa to Iraqi Christian Leader Sister Diana

Statement

Date: June 2, 2015
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Foreign Aid

Congressman Doug Collins issued the following statement, on the news that the State Department will grant a short-term travel visa to Sister Diana Momeka, the Iraqi Christian nun whom the agency denied permission to visit members of Congress and human rights groups this month:

"I questioned the State Department's obvious double standard in a letter to the Secretary of State: Why would John Kerry's agency deny the only Christian of her delegation an opportunity to tell her story in Washington? Clearly embarrassed, the department reversed its terrible decision. We need to hear more -- not less -- from leaders like Sister Diana, representing tens of thousands of persecuted Christians. I'm glad I was able to help her cause, despite this Administration's efforts to obscure the truth about radical Islam, a threat to Christians in the Middle East and free people everywhere."
