The Ratcliffe Report: The End of Obamacare?

Statement

Date: June 15, 2015

We've had an extremely busy past few weeks. I wanted to take the time to provide you an update about what's going on in Washington, what I've been doing to stand up for your constitutional rights, and some of the services I can provide for you and your family.

WASHINGTON UPDATE

In a House Committee on Homeland Security hearing, I questioned administration officials and terrorism experts about the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and their use of social media to recruit foreign fighters and spread propaganda and terror to a western audience.

After the attacks in Garland, which resulted in the death of two terrorists, we are presented with a unique challenge. Even though these men were not successful, ISIS still spins this failed attempt as a win.

Administration officials understood my concern. However, I urged officials that, in addition to traditional military operations, serious effort should be taken to counter ISIS' message and make it a "losing brand" throughout the rest of the world.

The House passed the Commerce-Justice-Science Appropriations Act of 2016 with my support. In this legislation, we took steps to limit the president's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

Some of you may recall, back in February, the ATF tried to ban the popular 5.56mm "Green Tip" ammunition. With the support of your united front, we were able to force them to reverse this attempt. Now, we have wielded the power of the purse to prohibit the ATF from taking action like this in the future. This is a major victory for the Constitution and our Second Amendment rights.

DISASTER UPDATE

Over the course of the past few weeks, our communities have been hit hard by severe storms, and flooding. Many of you have been effected by the weather with loss of property or worse. I have been closely monitoring the situation, and my office is here to help.

My staff and I are in daily contact with the Governor Abbott's office, Nim Kid (Chief, Texas Division of Emergency Management), and Tony Robinson (FEMA Region VI Regional Administrator). The counties that were included in Governor Abbott's most recently updated Disaster Declaration had to meet certain damage thresholds to be considered eligible for federal funds. The following counties in the 4th District of Texas have now been declared eligible for Public Assistance from FEMA - Bowie, Cass, Fannin, Grayson, and Lamar.

Public Assistance is aid to state or local governments to pay part of the costs of rebuilding a community's damaged infrastructure, which may include debris removal, emergency protective measures and public services, repair of damaged public property, loans needed by communities for essential government functions and grants for public schools. Generally, public assistance programs pay for 75 percent of the approved project costs.

No matter where you live, if you have suffered property damage, you should register with FEMA. There are three ways to do so, and details can be found at my website, ratcliffe.house.gov or by clicking on the image below.

I am honored to be your one voice in the U.S. House of Representatives. If you have questions about upcoming legislation, want further information and updates from my office, or just would like to engage on social media, be sure to click the badges below.

Thank you, and God bless.

Sincerely,

John Ratcliffe, U.S. Representative for the 4th District of Texas
