Press Release

Date: April 28, 2015
Location: Queens, NY

Today, Rep. Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx), Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus, issued the statement below following oral arguments in the U.S. Supreme Court in the four marriage equality cases consolidated under the name Obergefell v. Hodges. In March, Crowley joined his colleagues in filing an amicus brief in the Supreme Court in support of marriage equality.

"Every American should have the right to marry the person they love. With a favorable ruling, the Supreme Court has the opportunity to take an historic step forward in civil rights and definitively say that every American deserves to be treated equally under the law. The time has come for marriage equality to become a reality."
