Inhofe Statement on EPA's Airline Emissions Proposal

U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), chairman of the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, released the following statement after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released a proposed endangerment finding for carbon emissions from commercial airplanes that sets in motion a new wave of EPA regulations over the airline industry:

"Today's announcement is further proof of extreme environmental groups charting this country's regulatory course through the business of sue and settle. Under President Obama, the EPA is an all too willing actor. This administration is creating unnecessary red tape across every industry to progress an economically disastrous climate agenda. American air carriers have already made great strides in fuel efficiency and many have committed to a 1.5 percent annual fuel efficiency improvement through 2020. Adding the EPA into the equation will only increase costs without any substantial benefit. President Obama himself burned over 35,000 gallons of fuel on Earth Day 2014, and today's proposal conveniently excludes his travel from having to comply. This administration is out of touch with reality, and taking a "do what I say, not what I do' approach to environmental protection."
