Today, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) held a luncheon with Fifth District leaders from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in Greenbelt, Maryland. Several topics were discussed during the luncheon, including the tragedy in Charleston, economic development, education, job creation, and voting rights.

"I was honored to host leaders of the NAACP today and to thank them for the work they do on behalf of the Fifth District and our state," said Congressman Steny Hoyer. "The NAACP does outstanding work defending equal justice, equal opportunity, and economic advancement for African-Americans and all Americans, and these continue to be a major focus of my work in Congress. I was pleased to hear their input on issues of interest before Congress and discuss how I will continue to partner with the NAACP to advance these goals. The tragedy in Charleston this week reminds us that there is still much work to be done. I look forward to continuing to work with the NAACP to ensure that every life is treated with equal dignity, and that the doors of equality are open for everyone to achieve the American Dream."
