Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement today in celebration of Jewish American Heritage Month being observed all of May as well as the observance of Solidarity Sabbath on May 22nd:

"During Jewish American Heritage Month, Americans of all backgrounds join in celebrating the many contributions Jewish Americans have made to our great country. In every region, in every generation, our democracy is reinvigorated by Jewish Americans who proudly answer the call to repair the world, to pursue justice, and to advance the common good through service. As educators in our schools, scientists in our laboratories, leaders in our communities, Jewish Americans play a vital role in every facet of American society.

"As we observe Jewish American Heritage Month, we also must not forget that this year has brought an increase in anti-Semitism around the globe. Today, as I join leaders in communities around the country and world in observing the Lantos Foundation's Solidarity Sabbath, we must recommit ourselves to fighting against bigotry and racism.

"Whether combating the scourge of hate crimes and anti-Semitism, advocating for human rights for all people, or building coalitions to create a more inclusive society, Jewish Americans prove that out of many, we are one. As we celebrate Jewish American Heritage Month, let us continue to strive to build a stronger, more inclusive democracy for all."
