Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) issued the following statement regarding House passage of H.R. 2578, the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act (H.R. 2578):

"By setting clear priorities, this bill eliminates 34 unnecessary and duplicative government programs to generate $400 million in taxpayer savings, while ensuring that our law enforcement officers have the resources they need to protect our families, property, and communities across the nation. This legislation also fuels innovation by making scientific research a top priority, ensuring that America remains the world's innovation leader, and putting Americans first in line for the jobs of tomorrow," Scalise said. "Crucially, it prohibits the reckless transfer or release of terrorist detainees from Guantanamo Bay into the United States. I applaud Chairmen Rogers and Culberson for drafting a bill that will make America safer, and which further solidifies our country's place as a global leader in innovation and research."
