U.S. Rep. Mark Walker discussed human trafficking in-depth with several World Relief employees Monday afternoon. Walker introduced a bill, Human Trafficking Detection Act of 2015 (H.R. 460), which unanimously passed the House of Representatives Jan. 27.

The bill is part of an effort to train Department of Homeland Security personnel to better detect and intercept human traffickers, as well as their victims.

"It's a big problem regionally," Walker said. "We're getting ready to move, by some experts, from No. 9 to No. 7 in the country in dealing with this growing issue."

Walker said World Relief workers are always behind-the-scenes working with victims and refugees, whom he considers heroes.

"Anytime people are doing something just out of the purpose that it's morally right or that they feel it's a need without any opportunity to be spotlighted, that's a person of character and integrity," he said. "If we can represent them in Washington, D.C., and partner with that -- what a privilege that is to serve in that capacity."
