U.S. Rep. Billy Long was today presented the non-partisan 60 Plus Association's "Guardian of Seniors' Rights" award.

60 Plus is a 7 million-member national senior advocacy organization working toward constitutional solutions to address senior issues. The group calls tax reform a "critical link in the chain for the financial stability of seniors." James Martin, 60 Plus chairman, and Amy Frederick, 60 Plus president, recognized Long for his commitment to simplifying the tax code when presenting the award at the U.S. Capitol.

"Our nation's seniors have worked a lifetime to earn and save for retirement. They have built families and planned for their futures. The last thing America's seniors should worry about is how the federal government will upset their longtime plans with taxes and mandates. Our seniors deserve the very best and must have certainty for the path ahead. It is an honor to be named a "Guardian of Seniors' Rights'. I look forward to continuing the fight in Washington for positive solutions to negative policies impacting seniors," Long said.

Long is a strong supporter of the Fair Tax, which would create a more uniform, fair and simplified tax code through replacing income, business and employment taxes with a consumption tax. He voted for the Death Tax Repeal Act, which would eliminate the estate tax on property transferred down through generations or to others designated upon death. Long has also consistently voted to repeal all or portions of Obamacare, which includes a $700 billion Medicare cut and a tax on medical devices.
