Edwards Statement Regarding Escalation of Violence In Baltimore, Maryland

Statement

Date: April 27, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Donna F. Edwards (MD-4) issued the following statement regarding the escalation of violence today in Baltimore, Maryland.

"I am deeply saddened by the pain being felt in Baltimore tonight, and my heart aches for Freddie Gray's family and for all the families caught up in the violence that has overtaken the city. The senseless and appalling criminal acts must stop. Thousands of peaceful protesters have taken appropriate action over the last several days to call for answers and for justice, and they are urging calm. I stand with them. We cannot solve problems by destroying our communities. Let's come together and remember the words of Baltimore's own Thurgood Marshall, and 'recognize the humanity of our fellow beings.'"
