A tax break given to local businesses who donate to food pantries could soon become permanent.

It's called the Fighting Hunger Incentive.

The idea is to encourage businesses to donate food they otherwise would throw out.

Congresswoman Jackie Walorski was at the Martin's on State Road 23.

She says the bill just makes sense.

"When you partner with the community itself, the money goes farther, it's a much better usage of time and money, and more people are fed." Walorski said.

"So it gives us an ability then to look more deeply into our contributions and be more vigorous in our donations." Rob Bartels, President & CEO of Martin's Supermarket's said.

The measure passed the House last week.

Walorski says she believes the bill has bipartisan support.
