Lujan: House Republican Budget Leaves Middle-Class Families Behind

Statement

Date: March 17, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico's Third District released the following statement today on the House Republican budget.

"Once again House Republicans have introduced a budget that makes steep cuts to areas that are critical to growing the middle class and strengthening our economy, while dismantling Medicare as we know it for New Mexico's seniors. House Republicans provide tax breaks to special interests and billionaires, yet shortchange investments in early education that are vital to our children's future and infrastructure that are essential to putting more New Mexicans to work.

"House Republicans' plan takes away health care coverage for more than 16 million Americans, putting health insurance companies back in charge. With New Mexico near the top in child hunger, the Republican budget lays the foundation for cuts to nutrition programs that help families put food on the table during difficult times. The House Republican budget moves New Mexico and our nation down the wrong path, leaving middle-class families behind."
