Garrett: We Must Protect Future Generations from Our Debt

Statement

Date: March 25, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Scott Garrett (NJ-05), a senior member of the House Budget Committee and Chairman of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Capital Markets and Government-Sponsored Enterprises, issued the following statement after voting for the House Budget Committee's Fiscal Year 2016 Budget Resolution:

"The American people deserve an honest conversation about Washington's spending and borrowing, and they deserve a plan that preserves the American Dream for future generations. The reality is, with a growing $18 trillion national debt, we risk sending the bill for our reckless spending to our children and grandchildren unless we act immediately. That's why today I supported a plan that reins in the out-of-control spending in Washington that threatens the economic well-being of our nation and hard-working Americans. Most importantly, this plan doesn't raise taxes on New Jersey families at a time when they are struggling to get ahead. If American families must create household budgets and live within their means, so can the federal government."
