Salmon Introduces Bill Establishing Whistle-blower Protections for Union Employees

Statement

Date: March 19, 2015
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Labor Unions

Today, Rep. Matt Salmon (AZ-05) introduced the Union Integrity Act, a bill which would give new protections to union employees who report fraudulent activity. Upon introduction, he released the following statement.

"Whistle-blower laws are designed to protect employees who value honesty and integrity above just going along with their employers' demands. These laws ensure employers are held accountable when they violate the law, and protect employees from retaliation. Union employees are one group that has been overlooked in whistle-blower protections.

"These employees should not be forced to choose between paying their bills or following our laws and their consciences. They should be able to shine a spotlight on corruption without the threat of retaliation.

"My bill creates whistle-blower protections for union employees and would serve to protect honest union officers while encouraging the exposure of corruption."
