Iowa Congressman David Young released the following statement in response to President Obama's formal request for a new authorization for the use of military force against ISIS.

"The horrors that have taken place in the Middle East -- many to our fellow Americans have us all on heightened alert. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the Americans we have lost.

"The Congress has a critical role to play in foreign policy. House and Senate committees will begin hearings and rigorous oversight on the president's request and I look forward to a full debate. I also look forward to listening to Iowans as they share their thoughts and views.

"There is no doubt we must destroy ISIS. The President and Congress must and can work together on this critical national security objective. We must have a strategy that brings about stability and eventually peace."
