Hoyer Statement on the Change in Leadership at the Congressional Budget Office

Statement

Date: March 2, 2015
Location: Washington, DC

House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today on the appointment of Dr. Keith Hall as the successor to Dr. Doug Elmendorf as the Director of the Congressional Budget Office:

"I join in thanking Doug Elmendorf for his service as Director of the Congressional Budget Office, and I congratulate Keith Hall on being appointed as his successor. Since taking the helm six years ago, Doug has kept CBO true to its mission of providing Congress with expert and nonpartisan analysis. He will leave a legacy of integrity and professionalism at CBO that has raised the bar at an already respected institution.

"I look forward to working with Dr. Hall, who has a distinguished background in both academics and government, including as Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics under presidents of both parties. The role of CBO Director is a difficult one. I trust he will follow the example of past directors - from Rivlin to Elmendorf - and continue to ensure that the CBO remains a trusted nonpartisan and independent support agency for policy makers in Congress."
