House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) today issued the below statement following news of the passing of Rep. Alan Nunnelee of Mississippi.

"I am deeply saddened to learn about the passing of my dear friend and colleague Alan Nunnelee," Rep. Scalise said. "Jennifer and I offer our most heartfelt condolences to Tori, Reed, Emily and Nathan in this time of sadness. During his 56 years of life, Alan faithfully and dutifully served the people of Mississippi and the United States of America with an unparalleled work ethic and dedication. His devotion to Christ, family, and the institution of Congress was both admirable and inspirational, and earned him the respect and esteem of his colleagues. It has been a great pleasure to serve alongside Alan; it has been a greater pleasure to get to know Alan and Tori, and count them among our friends. May Alan rest in the everlasting peace of Christ Almighty."
