Issues: Civil Liberties and Civil Rights
The Senate investigation into CIA interrogation upholds the right of Americans to know when their government engages in brutality and deceit. Torture is not only wrong; it did not work. Debasing our country's values did not make us safer; it only weakened us and our ability to be an unassailable voice for justice and human rights. While the individuals who committed and authorized this outrageous wrongdoing should have been held accountable in court, we can at least expose their criminality to help ensure that it never reoccurs.
