Subcommittee to Hold Oversight Hearing of CPSC

Statement

Date: Feb. 26, 2015

The Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade, chaired by Rep. Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), has scheduled a hearing for Thursday, March 5, at 10:15 a.m. in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, "Oversight of the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the FY 2016 Performance Budget Request." Witnesses will include the Chairman and four Commissioners of the CPSC.

"Congress holds the power of the purse, and it's our constitutional responsibility to hold general oversight hearings to ensure agencies spend the money we give them efficiently," said Chairman Burgess. "We intend to take a thoughtful look at the commission -- its budget, priorities, and policies -- to make sure CPSC is adequately providing Americans with protections they need without constraining consumer choices or economic growth."
