"Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a champion not only for the rights of African Americans, but for people of all races, ethnicities, and backgrounds. Today, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., for his perseverance in the face of impossible odds, his triumph in pursuit of civil rights, and his assertion that we will never have genuine equality without economic equality. As we reflect on the life and legacy of Dr. King may we also rededicate ourselves to creating a more just, equal, and peaceful world for everyone."
