U.S. Representative Todd Rokita (IN-04) helped lead passage of a bipartisan bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security today. After weeks of planning and urging a vote from House Leadership last week, this bill included an amendment blocking President Obama's executive orders which grant amnesty to nearly five million illegal aliens.

"We are a nation of laws. President Obama's flagrant disregard for the legislative process threatens the very fabric of our Republic," said Rep. Rokita. "We have real work that needs to be done to reform our immigration system. While Congress should carefully consider all responsible options, Hoosiers know that amnesty is not the solution. I will continue fighting to preserve the rule of law, secure our borders, and develop workable immigration reforms," he continued.

The 2015 Department of Homeland Security Appropriations bill passed the House by a vote of 236-191. It includes funding increases for border security, enforcement, and the Secret Service, while reducing spending for the Transportation Security Administration. The legislation was amended to include provisions blocking President Obama's executive amnesty, and ensuring no funding can be used to consider new, renewal, or previously denied applications under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

In December, Rep. Rokita supported legislation to fund the Department of Homeland Security through February 2015, with the expectation that the House would address the President's executive amnesty early in the 114th Congress. Last week, Rep. Rokita wrote a letter to House Leadership, requesting a vote on the issue.
