Statement from Governor Hassan on Winter Storm

Statement

Date: Jan. 27, 2015
Location: Concord, NH

Governor Maggie Hassan today issued the following statement on the continuing winter storm:

"This is a major winter storm and driving conditions remain dangerous with high winds and low visibility. Most people have stayed off the roads, and I thank Granite Staters for keeping our roads clear through the night and early this morning, allowing public safety and transportation officials to do their jobs. The storm is not over and I continue to encourage people to stay at home and to check on their friends and neighbors.

"We have taken the unusual step of closing state government, and most of our employers have taken similar action. For those private businesses who have asked employees to come to work, I ask that they reevaluate that decision. We will continue to monitor the storm closely, and state public safety and emergency management officials will continue to support local communities and provide updates as needed."

The winter storm is expected to continue throughout the day, with estimated snowfall accumulation of more than two feet in southern and southeastern parts of the state. The storm has brought as much as four inches of snow per hour in some parts of the state, and high winds exceeding 50 miles per hour are expected to continue.

The state Emergency Operations Center is open and will remain open as long as is necessary. State public safety and emergency management officials are working with local entities to open warming stations and shelters as needed. For more information about shelters, including the closest pet-friendly shelter, residents can contact 2-1-1 NH toll-free by dialing 2-1-1 in state or 1-866-444-4211 from out of state.
