Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Billy Long announced today that House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton has named him to three leading subcommittees for the 114th Congress that begins January 2015.

In the 114th Congress, Long will serve on the Communications and Technology Subcommittee, the Energy and Power Subcommittee, and the Health Subcommittee.

"The Energy and Commerce Committee will look to build on the committee's record of success in the 114th Congress, and I am ready to help accomplish this goal with my new subcommittee assignments. The Communications and Technology, Energy and Power, and Health Subcommittees cover a large majority of the full committee's policy jurisdiction, and I look forward to having a hand in crafting major legislation beginning at the ground floor. It is important that we are looking at new technologies and advancements available in the telecommunications, energy and health care arenas and how they can help spur economic growth and job creation," Long said.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee has jurisdiction over our nation's telecommunications, consumer protection, food and drug safety, public health research, environmental quality, energy policy, and interstate and foreign commerce. The committee is responsible for reviewing the programs of the Departments of Energy, Health and Human Services, Commerce, and Transportation; the Environmental Protection Agency; the Federal Trade Commission; the Food and Drug Administration; and the Federal Communications Commission.
