A Message from Pete Aguilar

Statement

Date: Dec. 5, 2014

t's been a hectic month since our victory on November 4th.

But during the past 4 weeks, I've had time to reflect on what we have accomplished, and all of the remarkable individuals that made our campaign possible.

As we approach the holiday season, I wanted to make sure that I didn't let the time slip away without expressing my sincerest appreciation and gratitude for all of your efforts that lead to our victory.

Our campaign serves as a prime example of what can be accomplished when we work together to achieve a common goal. Through 19 months of working together, we encountered many challenges and roadblocks. But we were able to overcome the obstacles because you always stood by my side, and I cannot begin to thank you enough.

It's no secret that I ran unsuccessfully for this seat in 2012 -- falling short by just 1,100 votes. And after much time, reflection and seeking the advice of friends and family, I decided to give it another shot. When I announced my candidacy in April of 2013, I knew that the road ahead would be difficult, and if anything, it proved to be more challenging than the prior election.

But thanks to supporters like you, we made it across the finish line.

What I am most proud of from this election is that we were able to achieve success without compromising our values and vision. We never lost sight of the issues that matter most to San Bernardino County families -- building a stronger middle class by creating jobs, protecting our seniors and veterans, investing in education, protecting the environment and standing up for women's health.

We were able to relay this message to San Bernardino County residents through an army of hundreds of volunteers making phone calls and knocking on doors 7 days a week.

I am privileged and honored to have had so many selfless and passionate individuals working tirelessly for our campaign.

I couldn't be more excited and humbled to have this opportunity to serve the Inland Empire -- a region my family has called home for four generations -- as member of the United States Congress.

Thank you for all of your dedication, generosity and support. I look forward to sharing this experience with you so that together, we can begin charting a new course for the Inland Empire.

-Pete
