Congresswoman Clarke's Statement on the Passage of Bipartisan Homeland Security Bills

Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement on a series of bills passed on Monday by the House of Representatives to protect the security of American families by improving our ability to detect nuclear weapons, especially in large cities, and by developing critical infrastructure to mitigate the threat of an electromagnetic pulse to our electrical grid. H.R.5629, the "Strengthening Domestic Nuclear Security Act of 2014" was passed 374 to 11. H.R. 3410, the "Critical Infrastructure Protection Act" was passed by a voice vote without opposition.

"As we approach the end of the 113th Session of Congress, I am proud that we have an opportunity to work with each other -- Democrats and Republicans -- on eliminating some of the most serious threats to the safety of our nation and its people. We know that there are hostile governments, terrorist organizations, and other individuals who are trying to develop technologies to harm us, either by detonating a nuclear weapon in a densely populated area or by disrupting our electrical grid with an electromagnetic pulse," said Congresswoman Clarke. "We must continue this bipartisan effort to protect the people of the United States from the threat of terrorism or other attack."
