Reed Encourages Governor Cuomo to Ensure Funding for Communities Hit With Flood Damage

Press Release

Date: Nov. 7, 2014

Tom Reed is calling on Governor Cuomo to guarantee funding the local 25% cost share for our communities as a way to support the infrastructure needs for severe storms that occurred in New York State earlier this year, affecting the 23rd district.

At the request of our office and other federal representatives, FEMA is currently working with the local municipalities and organizations in the affected counties to repair the infrastructure. The federal government has guaranteed a reimbursement rate of 75% for total project costs associated with these storms.

Despite the federal government's commitment to repairing our infrastructure, the local communities have not received any guarantee from New York State to assist with the local 25% cost share. This uncertainty has created financial stress and confusion for the impacted areas at a time when our local officials need the most support to assist with necessary repairs.

"Despite the federal government's commitment to repairing our infrastructure, the local communities have not received any guarantee from New York State," said Reed. "We continue to work with New York State and the Governor's office to make sure the 23rd district gets the resources it fairly needs to rebuild. Whatever our office can do to get help for the areas that suffered damages, we will be part of that effort."

Directly following the flooding, Reed contacted Governor Cuomo's office to encourage the Governor to apply for federal assistance if the state is unable to respond effectively on its own. Reed visited the areas hit hardest by flooding including the Village of Penn Yan in Yates County and Camp Good Days in Branchport to see the damage firsthand.
