Congresswoman Clarke's Statement on the Second Anniversary of Hurricane Sandy

Congresswoman Yvette D. Clarke released the following statement on the Second Anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, which devastated much of southern Brooklyn and the region, displacing thousands of families from their homes in Gerritsen Beach, Sheepshead Bay, Canarsie, and other parts of New York State and New Jersey.

"After Hurricane Sandy, the people of Gerritsen Beach and Sheepshead Bay demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to rebuilding their homes and restoring their neighborhoods. I am proud to have worked with my colleagues in Congress to secure support for relief efforts and reconstruction. Only a few hours after the storm had ended, I visited Gerritsen Beach and Sheepshead Bay. The considerable improvement since then has been a testament to the perseverance of the people of Brooklyn," said Congresswoman Clarke. "But even as we commemorate the Second Anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, there are still hundreds of families who have been unable to return to their homes and thousands of people who have waited for the resources to rebuild their homes and lives. I will continue to work with my colleagues in the House of Representatives as well as federal, state, and local officials to provide the resources needed for a full recovery."

She represents many neighborhoods in central and southern Brooklyn, NY which include Brownsville, Crown Heights, East Flatbush, Flatbush, Gerritsen Beach, Madison, Midwood, parts of Park Slope and Flatlands, Prospect Heights, Prospect-Lefferts Gardens, Sheepshead Bay, and Windsor Terrace.
