U.S. Representative Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today announced that the West Virginia University Extension Service and West Virginia State University Extension Service have received a $246,000 grant from the National 4-H Council to support the 4-H National Mentoring Program.

The National 4-H Council received grant money from the Justice Department's Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention to use in support of national youth mentoring activities and programs. The West Virginia grant will be used to fund 4-H mentoring programs across the state to keep students safe and prevent youth delinquency.

"4-H programs across West Virginia provide important outlets for youth to connect with mentors and explore their interests. This much-needed grant will help support these mentoring programs and provide even more children in West Virginia with positive mentoring relationships and brighter futures. I am proud to support West Virginia's 4-H clubs and congratulate the extension services on this grant award," Rep. Capito said.

As of 2013, the 4-H National Mentoring Program has reached more than 31,000 youth, helping them build healthier relationships, improve their self esteem and continue their education.
