Doug Daggett Responds to Star Tribune "Donation" To Keith Ellison

Calls on the Star Tribune to Practice Fair Journalism

The Star Tribune ran a story about Keith Ellison's reelection campaign on October 10th that can in no way be considered fair journalism. Calling the Republican challenger Doug Daggett "token opposition," the author goes on to echo the DFL voter turnout model to the benefit of Ellison.

"This should really be credited as a campaign donation from the Star Tribune to the Ellison campaign" said Doug Daggett. "How did the Star Tribune determine only token opposition from my campaign? Is it from the poll the Star Tribune has not taken? Is it from the upcoming forums that have not yet taken place? Is it from the interviews with me that have not occurred? To call this fair journalism would be largely inappropriate."

The Daggett campaign, despite no mention of it from the Star Tribune, has been reaching out to the people of the 5th Congressional District to address the critical issues facing it. These issues have not been solved by our Congressman of the past 8 years. These critical issues include rampant unemployment, abysmal graduation rates, and recruitment of our youth in Minneapolis by terrorist organizations. We have government policies that are hindering job growth; and just recently we've seen blatant misuse of taxpayer dollars by a government funded nonprofit organization that Keith Ellison was supposed to be monitoring. Keith Ellison's policies during his 8-year tenure have made things worse for the people in this district while Doug Daggett is the candidate of true reform. An important question that The Star Tribune did not ask: "Why is Keith Ellison running such an aggressive ground game in this race?" The Star Tribune should be willing to include the Daggett campaign in this conversation and practice fair journalism in the future.
