Issue Position: Campaign Finance

I hope like me, you are concerned that big money interests are coming to dominate our political landscape. Even as far down the tree as our local school board and city council races, shenanigans with "loans" and last minute "amended" campaign finance reports are becoming much more common.

The Supreme Court "Citizens United" decision is now the law of the land in America, but frankly Vermont has led the way to more sensible approaches to our problems in the past-abolition of slavery, women's suffrage, civil unions and ultimately freedom to marry were Vermont initiatives that were ultimately embraced by much if not all of our nation.

Surely if we put our minds to it, Vermonters can introduce some measure of sanity into the world of how we finance campaigns, and ultimately, the degree our politicians are feeling the pressure to respond to corporate interests over those of their districts.
