Upton Earns National-Level Farm Bureau Award

Press Release

Date: Oct. 14, 2014
Location: St. Joseph, MI

Congressman Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, last night was awarded with the American Farm Bureau Federation's (AFBF) "Friend of Farm Bureau" award, a national-level honor recognizing Members of Congress for their support of Farm Bureau policy and initiatives.

The award recognizes Upton's support for the 2014 Farm Bill, Highway Trust Fund legislation to ensure Michigan roads continue to receive federal funding, and the Water Resource Reform and Development Act which supports dredging Great Lakes harbors. Upton was also recognized for his leadership in the bipartisan effort to stop a new overreaching Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rule under the Clean Water Act that would deal a fatal blow to many Michigan farms.

Michigan Farm Bureau's national legislative counsel John Kran commented, "Congressman Upton this year is also standing alongside agriculture in supporting H.R. 5078, which would repeal the Environmental Protection Agency's proposed rule redefining "waters of the U.S.' in the Clean Water Act. Representative Upton's support for Michigan farmers in this ongoing struggle has meant a great deal to our members."

"Southwest Michigan farmers keep Michigan and America moving," said Upton. "They're the backbone of our economy and I'm proud to stand with them -- and to stand up for them to work together to ditch the EPA rule. I'm humbled to once again receive their "Friend of Farm Bureau Award'".

Upton received the award at the Van Buren County Farm Bureau annual meeting on October 13 in Lawrence, Mich.
