Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06), praised Covered California's community outreach campaign for 2015, and the more than $4 million that will be invested for outreach efforts in the Sacramento region. Included among the grantees is Sacramento Covered, a long time coordinator of health coverage outreach, enrollment and education services, which has been awarded $360,000 to enroll individuals and their families in health insurance and help those with Covered California renew their insurance.

"Sacramento Covered has a proven track record of helping individuals who have never had health insurance, apply for and secure coverage for themselves and their families," said Congresswoman Doris Matsui. "By helping demystify the process, answer questions, and troubleshoot problems, Sacramento Covered is helping improve the health and lives of so many in Sacramento."

"We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Covered California," said Kelly Bennett-Wofford, executive director at Sacramento Covered. "Our team of enrollment counselors stand ready to assist consumers in the Sacramento region with learning about Covered California health plans, and helping them get enrolled during open enrollment and beyond."

The Covered California campaign includes $14.6 million in new grants to community groups to enroll consumers in health insurance and $46 million for statewide advertising to educate new customers. This funding, supported by the federal funding provided under the Affordable Care Act, is aimed at attracting and encouraging individuals and families to enroll in the state's health benefit exchange. Over $4 million of this campaign funding will go to community organizations that serve the Sacramento area.

"At its core, the ACA is about expanding access to health care and Covered California has led the charge in state based exchanges," said Congresswoman Doris Matsui. "It is imperative that consumers understand what their options are and how to access insurance they need and deserve."

Open enrollment for the individual marketplace will take place from November 15, 2014 through February 15, 2015. Those in the Sacramento region who need assistance can reach Sacramento Covered online at sacramentocovered.org or by their toll free assistance line at 866-851-4321.
