Today, Rep. Lois Capps (CA-24) announced that the Santa Barbara Public Health Department received a federal grant from the Department of Health and Human Services to support additional physicians at the Santa Maria Health Care Center.

The grant is in the amount of $302,776 and will enable the Santa Maria Health Care Center to increase access to comprehensive primary health care services for hundreds of residents by hiring physicians and other health care providers.

"This federal grant will allow the County to continue to provide health care access to those who too often go without it," Capps said. "So many people rely on the Santa Maria Health Care Center, and I am glad that this federal support will enable more families on the Central Coast to access comprehensive primary health care."

"The Santa Maria Health Care Center is the health care home where more than 6,000 residents of Santa Barbara's North County receive quality health care," said Public Health Director Dr. Takashi Wada. "This funding will significantly improve our ability to serve the hundreds of additional patients who have long waited to take advantage of our excellent services."

The Santa Barbara County Health Care Centers operate seven sites that provide care to about 30,000 patients.
