View From the Capitol - Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler's Newsletter for the Week of October 13-17, 2014

Statement

Good Day,

This has been another in-district work week, and I want to take the opportunity to share some of the things I have been doing and the people and places I have visited.

I recently visited one of our district's leading manufacturers of custom products used by the trucking industry. The ROM Corporation in Belton is a leader in the food distribution, fire service, and building security industries, specializing in engineering, manufacturing, and distributing of custom products such as safety walkramps, LinksGuard security closures, roll-up doors, cargo trays, and LED lighting.

It is truly a pleasure to tour the manufacturing plants in our district and to visit with both the employees and the job creators. We are fortunate to have this fine company in our district.

Still with manufacturing, I want to share with you an honor I recently received from the National Association of Manufacturers, which presented me with its Champion of Manufacturing Award for the support I have given to America's job-creating manufacturers. The Association believes, as do I, we need to keep manufacturing here in the U.S.A. and American-made products are the best in the world! I am pleased to stand with America's workers and to support legislation that will improve innovation, growth, and competitiveness. I am committed to helping manufacturers as they compete in the global economy and create jobs here in the United States.

I had the opportunity, this week, to join fellow Missouri Congressman Sam Graves for a tour of the Missouri Air National Guard's 139th Airlift Wing at Rosecrans Memorial Airport in St. Joseph. As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, I was glad to meet the men and women at Rosecrans who are carrying out a vital mission for our national security.

I am proud of the contribution that the 139th makes to our defense with their unique airlift capabilities.

I truly appreciate the invitation of Congressman Graves and the 139th to visit and see the extraordinary work being carried out by the Missouri Air National Guard.

Finally, I want to remind you of my 2014 Veterans Summit, which is scheduled for Monday, October 20th, from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon at the University of Central Missouri's Elliott Union, Room 240, in Warrensburg. The call to order and the Pledge of Allegiance are scheduled for 8:55 am. The goal of the Veterans Summit is to provide veterans with timely information on issues they care about such as how to overcome the challenges of reintegration after deployment, strengthening the family, and succeeding in the workplace. At the same time, we want to connect veterans with the many resources they have earned and deserve.

Panels hosted by experts include discussion of personal, emotional, spiritual, family and career issues of returning veterans; continuing education and career opportunities for returning veterans; and discussion of VA health care and benefits.

Visit this link for more information on the 2014 Veterans Summit: http://hartzler.house.gov/sites/hartzler.house.gov/files/VET%20SUMMIT%20FLYER%20%288%29.pdf

I strongly encourage all veterans who are able to attend to take part in this event. I thank University of Central Missouri President Chuck Ambrose and UCM staff members for providing us with this wonderful facility in which to hold our Veterans Summit.

Have a great week.
