George Sinner Hosts Second Student Roundtable Discussion

Location: Grand Forks, ND

Dem-NPL nominee for U.S. House, State Senator George Sinner, met with students at the University of North Dakota Tuesday to discuss their experiences and concerns. Last week, Sinner unveiled his student loan initiative and talked with students at North Dakota State University.

"We have remarkably bright and talented young people here in North Dakota, but they are being saddled with the highest rate of student loan debt in the country. Eighty-three percent of college students graduate with an average of $27,000 in debt in North Dakota. That is absurd -- these young people are our future business owners, workers, and leaders. They are a driven and hard-working. In the state legislature, I wrote the bill that helped alleviate some of the pressure on our students, and I am committed to doing even more in Washington," Sinner said.

"As a veteran and a student, I worry about the future quite a bit," said Cory Carivau, a student at the University of North Dakota. "My wife works hard to make up the financial difference while I'm in school, but with her loans and the loans I've accrued, we have a very real concern about the years ahead of us. I've worked hard to get where I am, and hearing George talk about making it just a little bit easier on students like me really gives me hope. When students graduate buried in student debt, it doesn't help as we try to make a better life for ourselves and our families. George is talking about real solutions that will affect people just like me."
