The Failing "F" Grade Goes to Fallin and Barresi

Press Release

Date: Oct. 2, 2014
Location: Oklahoma City, OK
Issues: K-12 Education

Joe Dorman, Democratic nominee for governor, pointed out that State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Janet Barresi, is just as out of touch as the Governor who helped get her elected. The people of Oklahoma responded during the primary elections to fire Barresi and hopefully voters will fire her best friend Mary Fallin November 4th.

"Barresi's response to the Peckham School District F grade is deplorable. Instead of agreeing to work with the school on finding real solutions, Barresi demanded they follow her way. Parents, teachers, and students are paying the price for this debacle she calls the State Report Card," said Dorman.

Dorman continued, "Barresi learned her heavy handed ways from Mary Fallin and her Washington bureaucrats, as she has continued to force her failed policies on the state. Together, Barresi and Fallin have gutted education funding, flip flopped on Common Core and, as a result, lost our No Child Left Behind waiver, and are now forcing the blame of a school's performance on the backs of special needs children.

"We should be working with our educators to find solutions that meet the needs of their students, not force a one-size-fits-all program on our students and teachers. Classrooms First, my education plan, takes into consideration all facets of education and allows teachers to have a say in how they teach their students. We will not implement a high stakes exam to determine how our students and teachers are performing, because obviously, that is the true failure."
