Murray Announces $2 Million in Federal Funding for Spokane Fire Department

Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member of the Senate Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee, announced that the United States Department of Homeland Security will make a $2,017,056 grant to the Spokane Fire Department to support frontline firefighters. The funding comes through the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Program, which assists fire departments by increasing staffing and deployment capabilities to help protect communities from fire and fire--related hazards.

"This is an important federal investment in the Spokane Fire Department and the
entire community," said Senator Murray. "Every day, firefighters in Washington state risk their lives to keep our families and communities safe. This funding will help support firefighters and make sure the fire department has the men and women it needs to continue to protect Spokane."

"We are evolving our fire and emergency medical services to meet the changing needs
of the community we serve," said Spokane Mayor David Condon. "This grant
will help us continue to be innovative in our approach to building a safer,
stronger and smarter Spokane. We very much appreciate Sen. Murray's support and
