U.S. Rep. Ron Barber will Meet with Southern Arizona Home Builders

Press Release

Date: Sept. 23, 2014
Location: Tucson, AZ

U.S. Rep. Ron Barber tomorrow will speak to a gathering of local homebuilders and also tour the Tucson office of a national insurance company where he will talk with several hundred employees.

Tomorrow morning, Barber will speak at a meeting of the Government Liaison Committee of the Southern Arizona Home Builders Association. Barber will make brief remarks and answer questions from the members.

Barber has worked in Congress to support the needs of Arizona's home builders by cosponsoring legislation and supporting policies that are good for southern Arizona's housing industry and economy.

Two weeks ago, Barber voted in support of legislation that would scrap the Environmental Protection Agency's proposal changing the definition of "waters of the U.S."

Barber said he wanted the EPA to start over and work with people outside Washington to develop a new rule. The EPA is seeking public comment on the proposal until Oct. 20.

He also has cosponsored legislation to bring relief to Southern Arizona homeowners and keep flood insurance coverage affordable for all. And Barber has a staff member dedicated to helping Southern Arizonans facing issues with home loan modifications and foreclosure.

Barber cosponsored the bipartisan, House immigration reform bill to fix the broken immigration system and secure the U.S.-Mexico border -- top priorities of the National Association of Home Builders.

Barber also has cosponsored legislation expressing the sense of Congress that the current federal income tax deduction for interest paid on home loans should not be further restricted.

Later tomorrow, Barber will tour the Tucson offices of Aetna Insurance Co. The congressman will meet with senior leaders of the company then speak to and answer questions from about 200 employees.

Aetna, founded in 1853, is a major provider of health insurance.
