Issue Position: Health Care

Issue Position

Rural communities across Kansas face difficult challenges in securing adequate funding while at the same time complying with federal regulations, and these challenges have gotten greater because of the President's healthcare law. As a member of the House Ways and Means Committee I am working to protect rural hospitals by repealing the President's healthcare law and create real health care reforms. Our plan includes weeding out waste and fraud, giving tax credits to allow people to buy their own insurance, ending denial of care based on pre-existing conditions, tort reform, permitting businesses to band together in order to offer affordable insurance, and allowing citizens to buy insurance across state lines.

Cost is at the heart of our health care problems. The plan House Republicans are developing specifically targets the aspects of the health care system that make treatment more expensive. Lowering the cost of health care will allow more people access to the care they need. The President failed to prove that mandating the purchase of insurance caused health care costs to fall. In fact, the President promised that by passing a government takeover of one-sixth of our economy, Americans would see their premiums decrease by $2,500. Unfortunately, a vast majority of Americans have either been given cancellation notices or have seen their premiums rise, sometimes dramatically.

The House of Representatives passed a bill I authored, the Simple Fairness Act, which simply gives the American people the same one year delay that President Obama has unilaterally given to big businesses, and big unions.and the politically well connected.
