Rangel Salutes Working Families on Labor Day

Statement

Date: Sept. 1, 2014
Location: New York, NY

Congressman Charles B. Rangel issued the following statement in celebration of Labor Day, which falls on September 1, 2014:

"In the first Labor Day parade of this nation's history in 1882, thousands of workers took time from work to march from City Hall to Union Square in New York City. Ever since, Labor Day has been a commemoration of the economic and social contributions of America's workers who remain the heart of this great nation.

As the economy steadily improves with strong job gains, improving business conditions and consumer confidence at a high, the role of the everyday men and women who tirelessly work to provide a better life for their families is invaluable to the continued success and strength of our country. In Congress, I will continue to support legislative initiatives that will provide better access to quality healthcare, affordable housing, and a livable wage.

In our Congressional District, people come from many different walks of life and from all over the globe but they share the aspirations for a brighter future and work hard to achieve that goal. On this Labor Day, I salute them and America's working families for their hard work to making our City and Country stronger and more prosperous."
