Congresswoman Hahn Visits the Ports of Haifa and Tel Aviv in Israel

Statement

Date: Aug. 8, 2014
Location: Tel Aviv, Israel

Congresswoman Janice Hahn (CA-44) is visiting Israel with a bipartisan congressional delegation to gain a firsthand understanding of some of America's most pressing foreign policy challenges and opportunities. As a strong supporter of Israel, Hahn is learning more about the U.S. -- Israel relationship, the peace process, Israel's security situation, and important political and economic trends in the region. She and her colleagues had an opportunity to tour the Port of Haifa to survey installations and security measures at the seaport. She will also meet with senior Israeli and Palestinian leaders and explore opportunities for bilateral economic and technological cooperation with the Israeli business community and ways to achieve lasting peace in the region.

"As a representative of the Port of Los Angeles and chair of the Congressional Ports Caucus, I was particularly interested in learning more about the transportation infrastructure network and security measures in place at Israel's leading Port of Haifa. As Israel's largest port, the Port of Haifa proves very successful with the most advanced terminal management system today, the NAVIS system. I was truly impressed by the efficiency of this international hub," said Congresswoman Hahn. "We also had an opportunity to visit the Tel Aviv waterfront port that now serves as a major tourist attraction and a beautiful public space for the local community. The boardwalk is not only functional, it has served as a boon for business and a center for entertainment and culture along the Mediterranean. While we work to renovate our own waterfront at the Port of Los Angeles, we could stand to learn a few things from the Tel Aviv port."
