Issue Position: Protecting Taxpayers

Issue Position

Steve is using his professional financial skills to make sure our state spends only what it can afford. He's voted to cut wasteful spending, made it harder for the state to borrow money, and focused spending on what's important to us: good schools for our kids, a strong quality of life for our families, and programs to help stimulate our economy and create jobs. He's done this all without passing along unfunded mandates or increasing income taxes.

By rethinking the role of government and making it run more like real world businesses, Steve is working to make it better for all of us.

He is committed to public pension reform that provides a fair retirement benefit to employees while being affordable and predictable for taxpayers and school districts. His idea? Place all new hires into a 401k-type retirement system like those in the private sector and force all legislators (sitting or new) to join this system as well.

Steve has already voted for smart changes to existing programs like welfare to eliminate waste, and is working to evaluate existing programs and services to save more money - all while making sure Harrisburg provides the services we need. He's done this without increasing our debt, passing along unfunded mandates, or increasing incomes taxes.

He's also supported fiscally conservative budgets that make government live within its means, and supported both legislation to eliminate property taxes and other common sense property tax reforms to help homeowners, seniors, and farmers.
