Water may not be the most attractive issue facing the Georgia General Assembly, but it certainly could be the most important.

Ignoring our water crisis is a course of action that can no longer be allowed to continue. Even though this past year has been a year of plenty, insofar as rain is concerned, as a state we continue to face a water crisis on a long-term basis. The 88th legislative District along with the rest of metro Atlanta uses over 400 million gallons of water a day from Lake Lanier. As you may be aware, the U.S. District Court ruled last year that residential water usage was not an authorized purpose of water from Lake Lanier and gave us three years to work out an agreement with two other states that boarder Georgia or gain Congressional approval. The clock is ticking as the deadline is during the next legislative term!

Having sponsored and supported legislation to abate our crisis, my leadership on conservation issues including water and the preservation of our environment has earned me the prestigious "Legislator of the Year" award by the Georgia Conservation Voters. I pledge to continue to support efforts to abate our crisis including supporting local conservation efforts and expanding water storage capacity.
