Issue Position: Personal Property Tax

Issue Position

Vote YES on Proposal 14-1!

We must get rid of the personal property tax. Essentially, it's a misnomer. It is a recurring sales tax on equipment that businesses already own and it's bad for business. That is why Michigan must move to repeal the PPT on the August primary ballot. The revenue will be replaced by expiring tax incentives for businesses and certain industries originally set into place by the Jennifer Granholm administration. Moreover, repealing the Personal Property Tax will allow businesses to grow and expand and inject more of their own money into development and capital investment. Proposal 1 actually lowers business taxes while closing special business tax loopholes. With the lower taxes, the U.S. Small Business Association predicts creation of 15,000 new jobs and $450 million in capital investment. Let's get rid of the PPT!
