Our youth are an incredible asset and crucial to the future of our economy. We can all agree that a strong educational foundation is vital to ensuring qualified individuals for tomorrows' work force. This can best be accomplished by preserving a degree of local decision making rather than adopting a one size fits all approach. By allowing our local school boards and staff to have a greater say in how our education dollars are spent, each district is better able to leverage their resources to focus on providing the best kind of education for the children within their district. State policies are over-reaching as they do not take into consideration individual circumstances through which staff and administration could best handle a situation. Further, they add additional burdensome loads on staff who are required to take additional training to become familiar with the large number of new rules put into place.
On the other-hand, the local iPad initiative right here in the Willmar High School is a great example of local resources being maximized through a private/public partnership with the community to address our specific needs.
With a proper approach toward education efficiencies we can excel in becoming national leaders in providing quality education!
